Remember Bernie Bower
A message from Jeremy Freerks and the Iowa City Rugby Team

Hey folks here is a message I received from one of the old boys from the 1981 era of the team being founded. It is great the memories we have from our days with the Iowa City Rugby team. Some short timers and others like myself have been with the team a long time. Think of this as we approach 30 years next year. A lot of the email addresses on here are old and leftover from years past of me trying to keep track of the old boys. If you got an old boys email send this along and please let me know where they are at and/or visit www.iowacityrugby.com or jion our facebook page. I really look forward to hearing from old boys and any help we can get with the 30 year reunion, old photos, old boys tourney team, suggestions, etc. Attached is a pretty good photo I got from Mike Capp. Thanks Mike.
Happy Scruming

When I joined the club Bernie was one of the first people I met. Like a few others at the time, bursting with the love of the game and full of ambition for the club. I believe he was one of the founding members. On the field he was a presence, not only because he was the largest guy in the team but because of his enthusiasm for the play. Plus he was blind as a bat without his glasses, and you could never tell which way he was going to go. A pair of rubber-framed sports glasses eventually fixed that problem. As dangerous as he was on the field (in all senses) he was more dangerous off the field. He was singularly responsible for getting me drunk-on-my-arse more times than any other individual, and he knew every word of a rugby songbook which I had never encountered playing in England- and had no sense of when that was inappropriate, or more likely just didn't care. And more. Much more.......
